The US$1.2 trillion contract funded by Amtrak's Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) brings the total order of trainsets to 83 following the addition of 10 trains.

Featuring ‘spacious, comfortable and contoured seat cushions,’ Amtrak boasts that its new trains all come with enhanced leg room, individual arm rests and adjustable headrests. The enhancements come as Amtrak strives to improve the reputation of rail travel in the US.

Additional enhancements include attention being paid to passengers of all capabilities and requirements with more spacious and accessible restrooms, vestibules, and café cars with integrated boarding equipment for customers with reduced mobility.

The Business Class section will have increased space between customers, offering double and single seats, wider arm rests, additional outlets, footrests and improved ambiance. Individual reading lights will be available for at each seat, giving an ‘aircraft’ luxury feel. Elsewhere, dedicated power and USB-C ports have been implanted along with seatback tablet and phone holders, bigger and sturdier tray tables and adjustable cup holders.

The first Amtrak Airo trainset is scheduled to debut in 2026 with these new trains will operate on routes throughout the country.
